VINCE_JONES-text592Plans for Ballina Shire’s major annual event, Rivafest, have been unveiled.

Rivafest will be held on Sunday 29 November at Fawcett Park, Ballina, and this year will include a Saturday program of events celebrating the rich history, culture and lifestyle of the community on the Richmond River.

The Sunday program will feature live entertainment and music with Fyah Walk, Wild Marmelade and Juzzie Smith, along with cooking performances with celebrity Master Chef Justine Schofield.

There will be an artisans’ market, creative and performance workshops with hip hop and break dance with leading Indigenous performers, as well as free games and activities for the kids and dragon boat racing.

Vince Jones (pictured), Australia’s leading jazz vocalist, will perform live in the park for a twilight concert on Saturday 28 November and there will also be a dedicated youth event on Saturday 28 November at Missingham Park Ampitheatre in Ballina called Youthfest.

Youthfest will feature a song-writing and performance competition co-ordinated by Southern Cross High School and a free Ash Grunwald Concert.

Youthfest has been made possible with a $19,000 grant through the Youthfest Event Fund initiative which is managed by MiiMi Aboriginal Corporation.

The Northern Rivers Community Gallery will also host three exhibitions with a focus on the region’s rivers, beaches and waterways.

The event program will be available on the website at www.ballinarivafest.com.au
