New seniors home-care service to open in Ballina
The Ballina branch of the world’s largest provider of home-care services for seniors, Home Instead Senior Care (HISC), will celebrate its official launch on Thursday, December 10.
Federal Member for Page Janelle Saffin will officially open the branch – the first in regional Australia and in northern NSW – at an afternoon tea for clients and partners at 2.30pm.
Home Instead Senior Care Ballina aims to help older people live independently in their own home for as long as possible by providing non-medical care services.
It caters for a wide range of towns in the region, including Ballina, Alstonville, Bangalow, Lismore, Byron Bay, Mullumbimby, Brunswick Heads, Murwillumbah, Pottsville, Casino and Coraki. The service will eventually cater south to Coffs Harbour.
Ms Saffin congratulated Home Instead Senior Care on providing a much-needed service for northern NSW’s growing aged population, which consisted of many retirees living away from their support network of family and friends.
“It’s fantastic that there is an organisation that can help eliminate the stress and worry of seniors and their families, as well as help re-establish their personal freedom,” she said.
HISC Ballina manager Melissa Williams said Home Instead was all about making life easier for older people and providing them with more flexibility and choice.
“Our fully-trained CAREGivers make daily living activities easier – menus are planned, food prepared is fresh and wholesome, bills get paid, prescriptions are picked up and, most importantly, our clients remain connected to their community,” she said.
“Clients can choose what type of care they would like, how many hours they would like and when it will be delivered. It’s entirely up to them.”
Ms Williams said HISC Ballina provided a much-needed service to older people who lived in the more isolated towns of northern NSW and did not have access to care or means of transport.
The franchise provides non-medical home-care services to older people such as personal care, meal preparation, light house-keeping, medication reminders, transport for appointments, shopping or errands, respite and convalescence care and early stages dementia and Alzheimer’s care.
The franchise is operated by the business arm of not-for-profit organisation Care Connect.
Care Connect is a not-for profit organisation that provides government-funded care programs for older people.
