Alstonville couple’s wedding will help the Heart Foundation

Matters of the heart will be front and centre when Alstonville locals Jason Bashforth and Cath Grippo get married in Murwillumbah on Saturday, 6 March.

The Heart Foundation said that instead of giving wedding guests a small gift, the couple decided to make a donation to the Heart Foundation as they have both been touched by cardiovascular disease.

Jason’s father Les died of a sudden heart attack 12 years ago when Jason was just 23.

Cath’s grandfather also suffered numerous heart attacks before he passed away in 1996. He had his first heart attack aged 35, which is the age Cath will be when she gets married.

“We both felt that making a donation was a better thing to do than giving all our guests sugared almonds or some other small gift which would probably just sit on a shelf collecting dust,” Cath said.

“It’s also a special way for us to include Jason’s dad who is still very much missed.”

Heart Foundation CEO–NSW Tony Thirlwell warmly thanked Cath and Jason for their support and wished the couple all the best for their big day.

“Cardiovascular disease affects two out of three Australian families and is still one of the leading causes of death in our community. As a charity, we rely on the generous support of the community to carry out our lifesaving work,” he said.

“Funds raised at events like these help us fund critical research and community projects to improve awareness, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.”
