Northern Rivers Community Gallery workshops for March

Recycling and reusing items in materialising artworks will be the focus of free art workshops to be held at the Northern Rivers Community Gallery during March.

Sculptor Teah Fort will be running two workshops sponsored by the Ballina Shire Council Waste Education Program on Saturday 13 March in conjunction with her exhibition, ‘Rare Plastics’.

The first session will be: 10am until noon and the second from 1pm until 3pm.

In these fun workshops you will use recycled plastics to create your own sculptures. Participants are encouraged to bring along their own materials.

Bookings are essential as places are limited. If interested call the Gallery.

Denise N Rall as part of her exhibition ‘Darker Shades of Royal’ will present two lectures – ‘Costume and Conquest: the drama of European influence in Garments and Textiles’.

Denise’s recent study in Costume (Wollongbar TAFE) allowed her to track European (and other) conquests and their impact on traditional clothing and textile practices in Peru.

This investigation led her to explore the nature of conquest in her own work.

Her lectures will provide an opportunity to gain interesting insights into Denise’s intriguing textile work.

The talks will be held at the Gallery on Wednesday 17 March at 11am and Sunday 21 March at 1pm. Entry is free.

The Northern Rivers Community Gallery, Ballina, is situated at 44 Cherry Street in the former Council Chambers. For further enquiries phone the Gallery on 02 6681 6167.
