Paddle for Life is on again!

The Far North Coast Canoe Club is running the 8th Paddle for Life – supported by local businesses and community organisations.

This year’s fundraising slogan is ‘$20,000 in Twenty Ten’ to be distributed equally between two local charities, Summerland Early Intervention and Southern Cross LADS.

Summerland Early Intervention Programme (SEIP) provides essential support for children from birth to age 5 with developmental delays and disabilities.

Educational and therapy programs such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, gross and fine motor skills are delivered at the Centre and local pre-schools.

SEIP has been helping children for over 20 years. Last year 140 families were supported, for each child to reach their maximum potential.

Southern Cross LADS was formed after a tragic motor vehicle accident claimed the lives of four young men from the Northern Rivers area in October 2006.

Southern Cross LADS (Learn About Driving Skills) is developing a Driver Education Facility near Lismore to educate all drivers about safe, responsible and competent driving.

The aim is to permanently reduce trauma and deaths from road accidents, with a focus on youth.

Paddlers will set off from Lismore at 8am on Saturday 17th April and finish at Ballina on Monday 19th April at about noon.

They will have travelled about 100km and are hoping that about 100 boats will enter.

This is a family fun paddle and paddlers of all ages and experience are welcome.

There is a raffle with a sea kayak donated by Challenge Kayaks Australia as first prize. There will also be a number of fun spot prizes for ‘the Paddle for Life River Yarn’.

Most meals are provided by local service clubs. The SES, WICEN and St John’s will also be helping again. Please get your entry forms in early to be assured of a place – go to www.paddleforlife.com
