Firefighters, McDonalds team up for fire safety
Ballina Shire families are invited to attend a fun-filled and educational day out and kids can meet firefighters from the NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) at the McDonald’s Fire Brigades Kids Day on Sunday 2 May.
Firefighters from Ballina Fire Station will visit the McDonald’s Ballina restaurant to hand out free Brigade Kids CDs and give local Ballina Shire children and families the chance to learn about fire safety and how to reduce the risk of fires in the home.
The Brigade Kids CD is a fun educational tool containing fun-filled, interactive challenges, quizzes, games, videos and songs that are rich in fire safety messages.
Kids and families can also visit the newly launched Brigade Kids website (www.brigadekids.com), which includes everything you can find on the Brigade Kids CD as well as virtual tours, interviews with firefighters and the story of the NSWFB, which will keep children entertained for hours.
McDonald’s crew will also be collecting donations from the community for the Burns Units at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, which McDonald’s will count and collate as a single cheque for presentation to the Burns Unit.
The Burns Unit at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead is the paediatric arm of the NSW Severe Burn Injury Service and is the referral centre for all major paediatric burns in NSW, treating around 1200 children suffering with burn injuries each year.
McDonald’s Fire Brigades Kids Day is part of Fire Prevention Week, which concludes on Saturday 8 May with the annual NSWFB Open Day. Fire stations across NSW will open their doors to the public and showcase the important work of firefighters and give the community the chance to learn what they can do to prevent a fire in the home this winter.
Where: McDonald’s Ballina, 21-25 Kalinga Street, West Ballina.
When: Saturday, 2 May 2010, 11.30am – 1.30pm.
