Food Links Project to hold information session
Ballina will be the venue for a Village Showcase Information Workshop organised by the Northern Rivers Food Links Project.
The workshop will be at the Ballina Community Services Centre (corner of Moon Street and Bangalow Road) on Tuesday, June 8, from 5.30pm until 7.30pm.
Across the region people are sharing their passion for fresh, local, healthy produce grown close to home.
This is because of growing concerns about the potential impact of peak oil, climate change and food security.
Rather than complain, communities in this region are taking positive action towards securing a sustainable food future for our beautiful part of the planet.
The Northern Rivers Food Links Project, a collaborative venture of the seven Northern Rivers councils and Rous Water, has $350 000 to fund Village Showcase projects.
This means that one $50,000 project will be funded in each of the participating councils. Eligible groups must be not-for-profit incorporated associations with a valid ABN.
Village Showcase Information Workshops are being held across the region to allow those who would like more information about the Village Showcase funding process.
“Already the first round of workshops has seen some amazing community collaborations,” said Andrew Woods, Local Government Projects Officer with NR Food Links.
“The Village Showcase funding will go to one project in each LGA, and in each of the first round of workshops there was a real recognition of food and community as common denominators in the grassroots work of many of the groups who attended. It’s been both inspiring and humbling to see groups acknowledging the greater benefits working together to develop collaborative projects.” he added.
Village Showcase projects are designed to develop new community food projects, or complement existing projects, and may include a combination of community gardens, local food markets, community food events, urban agriculture hubs, and more.
