Ballina Wins at North Coast Tourism Awards
Ballina Shire has taken out two award wins at the 2010 North Coast Tourism Awards held in Coffs Harbour on Saturday 14 August.
Gaia Retreat & Spa was the winner of the Unique Accommodation category, and Macadamia Castle won silver for the Tourist Attraction category.
The North Coast Tourism Awards were the first joint regional tourism awards covering two regions, Mid North Coast and the Northern Rivers.
There were over 70 submissions received, nearly half coming from the Northern Rivers region.
“It is great to see two products in the Ballina Coast and Hinterland come home with awards. This is the first time the two regions, Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers, have joined forces to co-ordinate and host the regional tourism awards, and it was very successful,” said Liz Shepherd, Ballina Shire Council’s Manager of Corporate Communications & Tourism.
The awards ceremony at Opal Cove resort was host to almost 300 people on Saturday night. Next year, it’s the Northern Rivers’ time to shine, with the Clarence Valley set to host the Gala Awards evening.
This year’s North Coast Tourism Awards was a joint initiative of Mid North Coast Tourism and theTourism Managers Group, Northern Rivers. The Tourism Managers Group represents Ballina, Byron, Kyogle, Lismore and Richmond Valley Council’s, Tweed and Clarence River Tourism Associations.
