Nominations sought for Seniors Week Achievement Awards

Ballina MP Don Page is encouraging members of the local community to nominate deserving individuals or groups for the 2011 NSW Seniors Week Achievement Awards.

“These awards are about recognising seniors (i.e. 60 years of age or older) for their contribution to the development of the community and their leadership and initiative.  The awards provide an opportunity to formally thank older people for the contributions they make to their communities,” Mr Page said.

Up to 60 awards are available in the following categories:

  • Business
  • Intergenerational Understanding
  • Environment/Science/Agriculture
  • Health and Well-being
  • Education/Lifelong Learning
  • Community Service/Volunteering.

“The Ballina Electorate has a wealth of worthy contenders for each of the categories and I hope that the local community will get behind the awards to show their appreciation of our local older people,” Mr Page said.

Nominations are now open and close at 5pm on Friday, 3rd September 2010. Winners will be presented with their awards at a ceremony in Sydney on Sunday, 20th March 2011.

If you would like to nominate an individual or group, nomination forms are available from Don Page’s office at Shop 1, 7 Moon Street, Ballina, or at www.nswseniorsweek.com.au
