It’s show time in Alstonville

Alstonville Show organisers have received record entries in many classes for the 122nd annual show.

The show, being held on Friday, October 29, and Saturday, October 30, is shaping up to be the biggest for many years

Friday’s ring events are action-packed, with cattle working dog trials all day, and a full horse program including Arabian classes and pony classes.

Local primary school and St Joseph’s school will perform on the entertainment stage along with Garry the Magician and Reptiles Down Under.

On Saturday there will be beef and stud cattle judging, championship dog show, and other ring events including ponies Galloways, hacks and also a palomino feature show.”

Included this year is a Rural Youth section of the cattle judging.

The show will be officially opened on Saturday at 2pm by Member for Page Janelle Saffin.

The main pavilion on Friday and Saturday will feature displays by the Ballina Marine Boat Modellers, Richmond River Wood Crafters, an historical display by the Alstonville Plateau Historical Society, Max Strong and his Matchbox car display, and an orchid display.

Entertainment on Saturday will include Irish dancers, Lennox Head Line Dancers, Spaghetti Circus, country singer Dennis Dryden, John Sewell and his concert band, Garry the Magician and the Reptiles Down Under live show.

There also will be sideshow alley, food stalls and rides.

The Showgirl winners will be announced after Saturday’s official opening.

Saturday afternoon entertainment includes a motorcycle stunt rider, Grand parade, whip cracking exhibition, rookie bull ride heats, ride-on mower racing exhibition, sporting club tug-o-war heats ($1000 prizemoney on offer), rodeo finals, dog high-jumping exhibition, three-legged and sack races.

A fireworks spectacular will finish the show.

On Friday, the ring events will start at 7am, with the pavilion open from 9am. Closing time is 5pm.

On Saturday, ring events start at 8am, with the pavilion opening at 8am and closing at 8pm.

General admission costs: Adults $10, pensioners $7, students (10 years and up to 17 years) $5, children under 10 free, family pass (two adults and up to four children) $25, membership (per year, commences April 1) $22.

On Sunday, separate to the show, will be the Camp Draft spectacular.
