Funding open for the 2011/2012 festival and event season

Ballina Shire Council has announced that funding applications under the 2011/2012 Festivals and Events Support Program have opened.

The program will once again provide $50,000 in funding for festivals and events held within Ballina Shire between July 2011 and June 2012.

The purpose of the program, which relates directly to the Festivals and Events Support Policy, is to enable Council to support festivals and events put forward by not-for-profit community-based organisations.

General Manager Paul Hickey said: “This year’s inaugural program was highly successfully, with five community events receiving funding.

With an increased awareness of Council’s Festival and Event funding program, Council is expecting to receive a significant number of applications in the program’s second year.

“The support provided by the Ballina Shire Council’s Festival & Events Support Program allowed us to expand our inaugural Ballina Boat & Leisure Show fundraiser. The Show was truly a gala event for the whole community to enjoy and raise essential funds for our new Tower,” said Jo Blundell from the Volunteer Marine Rescue, Ballina (previously Coast Guard Ballina).

The Festivals and Events Policy, detailing selection criteria and application form, can be downloaded from Council’s website www.ballina.nsw.gov.au.

The policy has been reviewed and amended, so ensure you refer to the current policy before submitting an application.

Applications close Wednesday 2 February 2011, with funding announcements to be made in early March 2011.
