Ballina Ex-Services redevelopment receives green light
On 6 December 2010, the Northern Joint Regional Planning Panel formally approved a $17 million aged care redevelopment at Ex-Services, Ballina.
When complete, the architecturally designed redevelopment will provide single room accommodation for 120 residents.
RSL LifeCare Northern General Manager Matthew Ashby said: “This ambitious redevelopment program will really transform the way we deliver aged care.
“The modern, single room accommodation complete with ensuite will provide a more comfortable and private living environment for each of our residents. It will be a more dignified way of living.”
Ex-Service Executive Care Manager Pam Osborne said: “This building program will provide residents with a new living environment that is purpose-designed to meet their needs as they age.
“Our residents can continue to enjoy the tranquillity of our North Creek setting, which will be enhanced with additional landscaping and the inclusion of water features and aviaries.”
Key features of the redevelopment include:
Creation of 120 contemporary single bed rooms with ensuite, catering for high and low-care residents.
Refurbishment of the Price Block to include a library, physiotherapy and gymnasium facilities, plus improvements to administrative offices.
Creation of a new main entrance off Hackett Lane, with Porte-cochere and water feature.
Substantial landscaping including gazebos, water features, secure walkways, garden beds and aviaries.
Renovation of the external facades of the buildings.
“We are particularly pleased that our main entrance will be relocated to Hackett Lane. We currently have several entrance points, and this can be very confusing to people who are new to our facility. In addition to looking fabulous, the new entrance will provide an all-weather pick-up and set-down area, and under-cover ambulance access,” Matthew said.
