Ballina to host major bowls tournament in 2011
Ballina Shire Council has announced that the town will host the 2011 BCiB NSW Grade 1 Pennant Finals on Saturday 30 July – Monday 1 August.
The event is expected to attract over 200 competitors and their families to the area over the 3 days.
Bowls NSW announced the successful bid in October, with Cherry Street Bowling Club named as the host venue.
Bowls NSW recently released news of next year’s event location which has been received warmly by their competitors, who will be looking to bring their families to the area for an extended stay.
Bowls NSW and Cherry Street Bowling Club are currently working together to finalise a full schedule for the competition program.
The event is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the town through local accommodation, transport, shopping, dining and entertainment facilities.
Bowls NSW CEO Greg Helm said: “We are pleased to be able to bring this specific event to Ballina, and with it, business to
local operators.”
Ballina Shire Council General Manager Paul Hickey said: “This is the first of a number of events that Council is looking to attract to the shire. After completing a sporting facility audit last year, we are now in an improved position to capitalise on our resources by attracting significant events to the area.”
