Pink Stumps Day may be an annual event in Ballina
There’s every chance that National Pink Stumps Day will become an annual fixture on the Tintenbar-East Ballina Cricket Club’s calendar.
The inaugural event for the club was held last Saturday at Kingsford Smith Park in conjunction with the Old Buggers reunion day and the clash between the club’s two third-grade teams.
Special guest for the day was former Test and one-day bowler Nathan Bracken, whose trip to Ballina came courtesy of the McGrath Foundation.
The club raised at least $4000 to aid the fight against breast cancer. Club president Brett Crawford was very happy with the result, saying: “We’ve raised in excess of $4000, at least.
“It was a very successful day and we were very happy with the turnout.”
Brett was especially pleased with the good attendance by club members, their wives, girlfriends and families in helping make the day the success it was.
Brett was able to have a chat with Bracken, and like all who met him on the day, Brett came away impressed.
“Nathan is a very nice bloke. He took plenty of time out to chat with the youngsters,” he said.
While Tintenbar-East Ballina played Marist Brothers on the southern field, the club’s two third-grade teams played each other on the northern field.
Pink stumps and pink caps featured on the southern field, while on the northern field, the third-graders looked resplendent in their pink shirts which were worn specifically for the day.
