Ballina Shire festival and events funding announced

Ballina Shire Council has announced that four events have been successfully funded in the 2011/12 Festivals and Events Support Program.

The Festivals and Events Support Program, now in the second year running, provides the opportunity for Ballina Shire community events to access up to $50,000 in funding for 2011/12.

Council allocated $51,225 to the following events:

• Paradise FM Community Radio Ballina Coastal Country Music Festival ($20,000)

• Marine Rescue NSW Ballina Boat and Leisure Show ($16,725)

• Ballina Lighthouse & Lismore SLSC Ballina Island Paddle Challenge ($500)

• Apex Club of Alstonville New Year’s Eve Family Festival ($14,000).

The Ballina Coastal Country Music Festival, in its inaugural year, will be held over the October long weekend and celebrate the coming together of local and regional communities for a weekend of fine entertainment for all ages. Troy Cassar-Daley has been confirmed for the headline act and will attend a community breakfast; spending time with fans and signing merchandise.

The Ballina Boat & Leisure Show, also held over the October long weekend, is the major fundraiser for Marine Rescue NSW Ballina Unit. The show will include exhibitors, swap meet, demonstrations and presentations on boating and safety techniques, fishing tips, and weather.

The Alstonville Apex New Year’s Eve Family Festival has been held for a number of years and will continue to be a family friendly New Years Eve event suitable for the young and old.

The Ballina Island Paddle Challenge will be held on Sunday 2 October and will offer community members from all abilities a chance to paddle around the Ballina Island.

    Congratulations on 1) The wastewater treatment upgrade. The present system is aready performing well, and the environmental goals related to the upgrade are world class.
    2) The Country Music Festival. It is sure to be a winner.
