Marilyn Perkins named Ballina’s Woman of the Year

The Member for Ballina, Don Page, today presented Marilyn Perkins with the Ballina Electorate Woman Of The Year 2011 Award.

“Marilyn has given tireless service in a wide range of roles to our community over many years,” Mr Page said.

“Marilyn’s dedication to community work has included serving as a Ballina Shire councillor, president of the Wollongbar Progress Association and member of the Alstonville Bypass Association.”

Mrs Perkins has also been an active member of Quota for 17 years, is a volunteer tutor in adult literacy at Lismore TAFE, a Board Director and current Chair of the Alstonville, Ballina and Lower Clarence Community College, Director of the Northern Rivers Regional Development Board for 7 years (4 years as Deputy Chair) and hosts a weekly radio program that focuses on the health and wellbeing of older people.

“Marilyn has been a role model for women and girls as a community leader,” Mr Page said.

“She has also done considerable charitable work through her involvement with Quota – an organisation that focuses on disadvantaged women and children and the hearing impaired.

“Marilyn has given so much of herself to community service. She is indeed an inspiration and a very worthy recipient of this year’s award.

“On behalf of the Ballina Electorate I thank Marilyn for her many years of tireless community service and her championing of important local projects.”
