Ballina NAIDOC Week Celebrations 2011
During the week commencing 3 July, NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee) is being acknowledged in Ballina Shire. Celebrated across Australia in July each year, NAIDOC recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The 2011 National NAIDOC theme is ‘change: the next step is ours’, which is about taking responsibility for the future. Once again, Ballina Shire Council is pleased to collaborate with local Aboriginal service providers and community members to plan this year’s NAIDOC Week activities. Whilst a number of important activities are scheduled for NAIDOC Week, the focus will be on our annual Celebration Walk through the Ballina Town Centre on Monday 4 July, commencing at 10.00am. All shire residents are warmly welcome to join in the Walk. Representatives from community groups and service clubs are also encouraged to show their support. To obtain details of the Celebration Walk and other activities for NAIDOC Week telephone Council’s Strategic and Community Services Group on 6686 1284 or visit Council’s website www.ballina.nsw.gov.au
