Rural Fire Service Warns North Coast Residents to be Prepared for Bushfire Season
The RFS says there is lush grass growth on plateaus in the region which can ignite quickly when the weather dries out. The region’s north manager, Brett Condie, says there is concern that recent rainfall could make people complacent about fire risks. ”Just the recent spate of hot weather has seen a number of fires,” he said.
“Whilst they certainly haven’t created any major issues, it certainly is a concern that we still have the potential to get running fires.
“During the course of last week we certainly had those warmer conditions and higher temperatures, lower humidity.”Even on the coastal strip we still have the potential for those areas where we’ve got significant growth of grass, to have potentially fast running fires.”
