Comments invited on Skennars Head planning proposal

Residents and landowners are invited to comment on the Skennars Head coastal village planning proposal to rezone approximately 35ha of rural land for urban development.

The Minister for Planning and Infrastructure has appointed the Northern Joint Regional Planning Panel as the relevant planning authority for this planning proposal.

The rezoning proposal allows for the development of a new residential neighbourhood with capacity for 500 residential lots, a neighbourhood centre, recreational reserves and open space.

Acting chair of the Northern regional panel, Ms Pamela Westing, said suitable planning controls have been applied in the planning proposal, including building heights and minimum lot sizes.

“Areas within the site which are unsuitable for residential zoning are proposed to be rezoned to rural landscape,” she said.

“Parts of the land that contain significant wetlands and vegetation communities and areas of high visual sensitivity, which may be suited to an environmental protection zone, will also be identified under the planning proposal.”

The planning proposal will be exhibited for a minimum of 28 days and notification of the community consultation period will be made in local newspapers. The exhibition will close on Monday 29 July 2013.

“Public comment on the planning proposal is encouraged and everyone in the community is welcome to view the proposal and provide their feedback,” said Ms Westing.

More information on where the proposal can be viewed and how to lodge a submission can be found at www.jrpp.nsw.gov.au.
