Relay For Life returns in November
The much-loved, much-anticipated Ballina Shire Relay For Life is back again in 2013.
Beginning in 2003, the event has been held seven times in the Ballina Shire. In 2012 the event surpassed the Volunteer Organising Committees greatest expectations and raised an astounding $96,423.35.
Every year across NSW 48,000 people take to the track at their local Cancer Council Relay For Life event to celebrate the lives of cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer and to fight back against the disease.
Across the course of the Ballina Shire’s 10-year relay history the community has raised an astounding $451,347.99 towards cancer research, prevention, advocacy and support services.
Cancer affects one in two people during their lifetime; it touches all our lives. Everyone’s reason to Relay is as unique as their own personal story. At Relay, you can find healing, comfort, and support from others who have faced cancer or who have lost a loved one to the disease.
You have a chance to meet people in the community who are equally as passionate about finding an end to cancer in our lifetime.
You can thank all the people who have done so much to support you through your personal cancer experience. And you can gather together with friends, family, and colleagues to laugh, cry, and create lasting memories.
No matter why you take part in Relay, one thing is clear: with every step you take, you are helping the Cancer Council save lives.
“People will bring their tents and camp overnight as a community. There will be free entertainment, games for the kids and even spot prizes,” Cancer Council NSW Community Relations Coordinator Emily Pettitt said.
Ceremonies will also be held throughout the event to honour locals who have been touched by cancer.
“At dusk, we will line the track with candles and messages dedicated to loved ones who have faced cancer. We know from other NSW Relay For Life events that this is always one of the most moving reminders of why we fight cancer.”
