‘Chicky’ would have loved it!

chickyHelen ‘Chicky’ Poulos would have loved it – 150 people walking along North Wall in their daggiest shirts.

That’s what happened last Saturday when the inaugural walk to honour the former Ballina High School teacher was held.

The walk marked one year since the death of the much-loved Chicky, who died last year aged 58.

Chicky and her friends were a common sight walking along North Wall, and Chicky was well-known for wearing her daggy shirts as she walked.

So friend Jenny Seymour organised last Saturday’s walk, and it was stipulated that you had to wear your daggiest shirt.

Not only did the walk honour Chicky’s memory, but it also raised $2210 for charity, with $2100 donated to the Ballina Hospital Auxiliary, and the rest going to the Ballina Surf Club.

Among those walking were the Ballina Babblers, a social group whose members walk … and talk, and a group which Chicky was a member of.

There was lots of walking and talking last Saturday, all in honour of a much-loved Ballina local.
