Free dementia education session for volunteers in Ballina
Alzheimer’s Australia NSW is holding a free three-hour interactive dementia education session for volunteers who are supporting people in aged care, dementia care or general community service in Ballina this month.
The workshop will provide volunteers with fundamental information about dementia and its impact on the person, and an opportunity to learn strategies for communication and engagement.
The volunteer education session will be held on Monday 22 June from 1pm – 4pm at the Ballina RSL Club.
Attending may assist you in your volunteering role or when you are visiting a person who is living with dementia.
Some of the main topics covered will include:
Understanding major causes and symptoms of dementia.
How damage to the brain caused by dementia can affect function and behaviour.
Effective engagement when visiting a person with dementia.
Attending also provides workshop participants with the opportunity to meet other volunteers who share a similar experience.
Afternoon tea is included. Registration is essential. For more information, or to register, please call Terri Cane at Alzheimer’s Australia NSW on (02) 6584 7444 or email: NSW.MidNorthCoast@alzheimers.org.au.
