Have you got a big idea for a tiny home?
Entries for the 2016 Tiny Homes Design Competition remain open until 1 September.
This year’s Sustainable House Day theme is ‘Tiny Homes’, tapping into the growing tiny house movement that has taken off in America and other countries around the world. Residents, architects, designers and young people in the Northern Rivers are invited to enter the competition and come up with big ideas for living with a small footprint.
There are three categories: Tiny Homes – A Pocket Neighbourhood, A Tiny Home and A Teeny Tiny Home.
The annual design competition features a different theme each year and attracts huge local interest, with more than 1500 people viewing the final designs at last year’s Sustainable House Day Expo.
The 2016 design competition will culminate in a Showcase Awards and Expo at Mullumbimby Civic Hall on Saturday, 17 September. Visitors are able to view the entries, vote for their favourite design and meet the designers.
A new feature at the expo this year is a special ‘Speed Date a Designer’ segment where community members can talk to leading designers and receive unbiased advice on building sustainably or retrofitting old homes.
There is over $5000 in cash and prizes to be won.
