Sneaths Road Footpath, Wollongar construction as part of PAMP Project
Ballina Shire Council has commenced construction of a footpath along Sneaths Road, Wollongbar, connecting Plateau Drive and the Wollongbar TAFE underpass.
The two-stage construction is due for completion early in the new financial year.
This project forms part of the works program developed from Council’s Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan (PAMP), which looks at prioritising footpath improvements across the Ballina Shire.
Council is currently preparing for the next update of the PAMP and is seeking feedback from the community for footpath improvement works.
It is the people using the footpaths that recognise issues or potential improvements that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. Council is seeking feedback on issues such as the width and connection of footpaths, pedestrian crossings and refuges, line markings, tactile and audible facilities, kerb ramps and other fixtures such as lighting and signage.
Council’s Road Safety Officer, Ms Helen Carpenter said “the PAMP focuses on where pedestrians travel within Ballina Shire, identifies problem locations and prioritises improvements to safety, access and mobility”.
“We’re looking for local knowledge from those using the footpaths. Whether on foot, on a mobility scooter, using wheelchairs or prams, or on your way to school,” Ms Carpenter said.
“Once we receive and analyse community feedback, we can take the next step to prioritise improvements,” she said.
“Working together with the community allows Council to be one step ahead to ensure better pedestrian safety”.
