Youth Art Awards @ NRCG

Erin Cattle  – Ballina Coast High

LOUD in the Gallery, presented at Northern Rivers Community Gallery (NRCG) is a dynamic exhibition celebrating National Youth Week and features final year works from Alstonville High School, Ballina Coast High School, Southern Cross School K- 12, Xavier Catholic College and Emmanuel Anglican College.

Now in its fifth year, LOUD provides an invaluable opportunity for students throughout the Shire to present their final HSC work in a professional Gallery environment, while granting the community insight into the processes, skills and concepts the students explore in artmaking.

In 2017, the NRCG offered a series of inaugural Youth Art Awards sponsored by Byron School of Art, Ballina Art and Framing, and Byron Arts Magazine recognising high level artistic excellence. These prizes aim to support the ongoing professional development of the young artists’ creative practice.

Erin Cattle from Ballina Coast High School was awarded a voucher ($100) sponsored by Byron Arts Magazine (BAM) redeemable at ‘Still@ the Centre’ for her work ‘Fleur’.

Brianna Massey of Xavier Catholic College received a voucher (to the value of $250) redeemable at Ballina Art and Framing for her work ‘Above Below and Inbetween’.

The judges awarded the Professional Development Youth Art Award sponsored by Byron School of Art (BSA) to two students: Amber McClure of Alstonville High School for her work ‘Out of Mind’ and Nina Bakos of Xavier Catholic College for her work ‘Inside Information’.

The students will receive a professional mentoring session with internationally recognised artist, Emma Walker.

The Youth Art Awards are an exciting addition to the highly successful annual LOUD in the Gallery exhibition providing acknowledgement of the artistic excellence of local schools and their students.

The LOUD in the Gallery exhibition will continue until Sunday 23 April 2017.

The Northern Rivers Community Gallery is located at 44 Cherry Street Ballina and is open Wednesday to Friday from 10am until 4pm and weekends from 9.30am until 2.30pm. For further information contact the Gallery on telephone 02 6681 6167. www.nrcgballina.com.au
