Surfing conditions in the Ballina region have been good this week, with a constant north-east swell providing some good waves.

Police say they are astounded that more than 2000 people have been booked for speeding in school zone during a one-week road safety campaign — including 537 people being fined in the northern police region of the State.

There’s a small swell from Evans Head to Ballina and Lennox Head today, but things could improve with the prospect of an increasing north-east swell, courtesy of some cyclone action in north Queensland this week.

The Pacific Highway at Woodburn is expected to be closed for most of the morning after a truck crash.
Police said that about 12.30am today (Friday 9 February) a semi-trailer travelling south on the Pacific Highway carrying perishable goods lost control and rolled.

A police operation targeting child safety around schools began this morning across NSW.
Traffic Services Commander Chief Superintendent John Hartley said ‘Operation Back-to-School’ will run until Friday.
Chief Superintendent Hartley said the Statewide operation targets drivers speeding in school zones, children’s crossing offences, people illegally using their mobile phones, and other traffic offences.

Surfing conditions from Evans Head north to Lennox Head are poor, with a strong onshore wind.
Ballina’s beaches are blown out, and the weather reports suggest that the onshores will continue over the weekend.
Byron Bay might offer some shelter from the wind, but, as usual, expect a crowd!

Member for Ballina Don Page today welcomed an additional 13 probationary police officers for the Richmond Local Area Command (LAC) and 7 new officers for the Tweed-Byron LAC.
