WIRES Northern Rivers branch opened in April 2004, it encompasses an 8000sq km area in Northern New South Wales taking in the towns and surrounding districts of Nimbin, Kyogle, Casino,West of the Richmond Range, Ballina, Broad Water, Woodburn, Byron Bay, Mullumbimby and Lismore. WIRES (The NSW Wildlife Information and Rescue Service Inc) was established in 1985, since then branches have been established covering most of NSW. It is the largest wildlife rescue and care organisation in Australia. WIRES is a non-profit, non-political organisation, where animal welfare always comes first. All carers are voluntary, and give their time and emotions free of charge. We rely on public donations which are tax deductible $2.00 and over. All WIRES carers undertake intensive training in native animal care, many specialising in specific species. The welfare of our native animals is a responsibility that should be of concern to all Australians. After treatment - often involving intensive veterinary care nursing and rehabilitation by the rescuers and carers - animals are returned to the wild, with as little human intervention as possible. WIRES are always looking for new members to join. If you would like more information visit their website or phone 6628 1898.
