New air services connecting Ballina and Newcastle

flypelicanThe Ballina Byron Gateway Airport has announced that FlyPelican will commence flights connecting the Northern Rivers region to the Newcastle region in December 2015 (subject to regulatory approval).

The new service provides the two regional communities with a daily Ballina to Newcastle return air service.

FlyPelican, an independent regional airline, is excited to be adding another route to its network.

The Chief Executive Officer of FlyPelican, Paul Graham said: “The Newcastle to Ballina route is very well suited to our Jetstream 32 aircraft. We will commence operating a daily return service on 7 December 2015, which will fly 19 passengers in about one hour and 20 minutes from Newcastle to Ballina.”

The Ballina Byron Gateway Airport has been working with FlyPelican for a number of months in getting the business case right for the airline. Neil Weatherson, Council’s Airport Manager,  is equally delighted with the news.

“It is a very positive step for the Ballina Byron Gateway Airport and we are looking forward to working with FlyPelican to grow this service,” he said.

Flights for the FlyPelican Newcastle to Ballina service can be purchased from the FlyPelican website and will start from $99 one-way inclusive of taxes.

Newcastle/Ballina Summer Schedule from 7 December 2015 (depart-arrive, schedule subject to change):

  • Monday to Sunday Newcastle 0720 Ballina 0840.
  • Monday to Sunday Ballina 0910 Newcastle 1030.
  • Newcastle/Ballina Summer Schedule from 1 February 2016:
  • Monday to Sunday Newcastle 1100 Ballina 1220.
  • Monday to Sunday Ballina 1250 Newcastle 1410.
