About Ballina, NSW — Where is Ballina?

Ballina is a vibrant coastal town located on the far north coast of New South Wales, Australia. History

The Ballina area is the traditional country of the Bundjalung people, who have lived in the region for thousands of years. European settlement began in the 1840s, with the town developing as a river port for the cedar logging and agricultural industries.

The name “Ballina” is believed to derive from an Aboriginal word meaning “place of many oysters.” The town grew rapidly during the timber boom and later became an important centre for sugar cane, fishing and farming.
