South Ballina Beach is one of the few beaches in the Ballina region that permits 4WD access. The long, wild stretch of beach south of the Richmond River offers excellent fishing, beach camping opportunities and a true wilderness coastal experience.
A valid beach driving permit is required to drive on South Ballina Beach. Permits can be obtained from the Ballina Shire Council and Richmond Valley Council offices. Driving conditions vary with tides and weather, and a genuine 4WD vehicle is essential.
