From 11 January the Northern Rivers Community Gallery will host 4 new exhibitions.
11th January 2012
Beneath the Surface by Mike Greenslade
Alstonville photographer, Mike Greenslade presents a series of photographic works exploring the nature of surface and the action of the elements and light-play on the hulls of boats. The resulting exhibition, Beneath the Surface, is a collection of colourful and intriguing “found paintings”, pre-existing abstract landscapes captured in camera. Of his exhibition Mike says “There is a painterly quality to a lot of my exhibition work, yet in
many of these pieces the process recorded is the opposite of painting, in that layers of paint are being removed to reveal the images beneath. The harsh sun, submersion in salt water and a boat’s working life take their toll on the hull’s surface, telling a story like lines and scars on an ageing face.”
Deborah Tinker’s exhibition entitled, Between the Sea and Me is a diverse collection of works exploring her love of the sea. Her works include her classic surfboard tables, photography and intricate images burnt into timber using a pyrographic burning tool.
David Shaw’s exhibition This One is for Annie is a collection of new limestone and ceramic sculptures exploring human relationships. The exhibition is dedicated to his darling wife Annie who passed away in April 2011 after suffering from a series of strokes. David is donating all of his earnings from artwork sales to The Stroke Foundation, in memory of Annie. David will also be doing free, weekly limestone carving demonstrations for the duration of his show. You can catch David from 9.30am – 11am, at the Gallery on 12 January, 18 January, 25 January and the 3 February.
Also on display will be Wetlands: Your Water, Our Passion. This exhibition comprises a selection of works from the 2008 – 2011 WetlandCare Australia National Art and Photography Competition.
